Visas, flights and the practical part
The answers change depending on which passport you hold, so pick yours. We have linked your own government’s travel advice rather than paraphrasing it.
- Visa
- Not required for tourism up to 90 days. Passport valid for your whole stay.
- Getting there
- Royal Air Maroc flies New York JFK and Washington Dulles non-stop to Casablanca — roughly 7–8 hours eastbound. One-stop routes run through Europe to all four of our start cities.
- Time difference
- Morocco is 5 hours ahead of New York for most of the year (it keeps UTC+1, and steps back an hour during Ramadan).
- Money
- We quote in US dollars. On the ground the currency is the Moroccan dirham, which you get after you land — cards work in cities, cash for markets and tips.
- Power
- 220 volts, European two-pin sockets. Bring an adapter; most phone and laptop chargers handle the voltage.
Entry rules change. Before you book, check US State Department advice for Morocco.
- Visa
- Not required for tourism up to 90 days. Passport valid for your whole stay.
- Getting there
- Non-stop from London to Marrakech, Fes, Tangier and Casablanca in about 3.5 hours, and from several regional airports. It is a short-haul flight with a long-haul landscape at the other end.
- Time difference
- Morocco keeps UTC+1, so it is usually the same time as the UK in summer and an hour ahead in winter.
- Money
- We quote in US dollars. On the ground the currency is the Moroccan dirham, which you get after you land — cards work in cities, cash for markets and tips.
- Power
- 220 volts, European two-pin sockets — the same voltage as home, a different plug. Bring an adapter.

- Visa
- Not required for tourism up to 90 days. Passport valid for your whole stay.
- Getting there
- No non-stop service. One stop through Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul puts you in Casablanca in roughly 22–26 hours from the east coast.
- Time difference
- Morocco keeps UTC+1 — about 9 hours behind eastern Australia, so plan a slow first day. Our routes start with one.
- Money
- We quote in US dollars. On the ground the currency is the Moroccan dirham, which you get after you land — cards work in cities, cash for markets and tips.
- Power
- 220 volts, European two-pin sockets. Bring an adapter; Australian plugs do not fit.

- Do I need a visa?
- Not for a holiday. US, UK, Australian, Canadian, Irish and New Zealand passport holders can enter Morocco visa-free for up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for the whole stay, and you should always check your own government's current advice before you book — links are on this page.
- Is this a private trip or will I be with strangers?
- Private. Every route on this site is your party only, in your own vehicle, with your own driver. The only fixed-date departure is The Grand Traverse, and even that is run privately.
- What does it cost?
- Only The Grand Traverse has a published price: US$4,800 per person, which is final rather than a starting figure. Every other route is priced for your group, because the cost depends on your dates, how many of you there are and where you sleep. You get a written price before you pay anything.
- How do I pay, and when?
- Nothing is paid on this website. Once your itinerary is confirmed in writing, a 30% deposit by bank transfer secures the dates; we send the transfer details then.
- Are flights included?
- No. International flights are yours to book. Everything inside Morocco — the vehicle, the driver, the fuel, the airport pickup and drop-off — is included.
- When is the best time to come?
- March to May and September to November are the most comfortable, and spring adds the rose harvest in the Valley of Roses. Summer is hot inland and in the desert but fine on the coast and in the mountains; winter is crisp and clear, with snow possible in the High Atlas.
- How much of the day is spent driving?
- It varies by route, and every day on every itinerary page states its own driving time before you commit to it. Morocco is a big country — the day from Fes to the Sahara is the long one on most routes, and it is also the one people remember.
- Where will I sleep?
- The Grand Traverse names all nine properties on its page. On every other route the accommodation is chosen for your trip and confirmed in writing in your itinerary before you pay a deposit.
- Can you change a route, or build one from scratch?
- Yes — that is the normal case rather than the exception. Use the six-question planner, or write to us and describe the trip you want.
